We live in a society where the internet is defined as a terrifying, lonely, and dangerous place. But there are 1.5 billion people in this world, and the amount of ‘bad people’ online is minuscule compared to those who are just doing research, posting a facebook status, or using Netflix. So why do we always hear stories about kidnappings, bullies who ridicule teenage girls, or hackers trying to take down our government? Why do we not hear about the online group of girls who created a safe haven for a woman who was being abused by her parents? Why are stories about petitions that changed lives brushed aside for those traumatizing current events? In my ten years online, I’ve rarely come across a person who wasn’t kind or decent. The internet is a vast expanse of knowledge, creativity, and friendship. I want to show others that it’s a community where people can share and discuss and laugh. Because sometimes the internet is the safest place you can go. Sometimes the internet is the best place in the world.
